Psalm 90

The Lord is our dwelling place

0 A Psalm of Moses the man of God. 1 LORD, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth or you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

  • Psalm 96:5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.

3 You turn man to destruction; and say, Return, you children of men. 4 For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. 5 You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass that grows up. 6 In the morning it flourishes, and grows up; in the evening it is cut down, and withers. 7 For we are consumed by your anger, and by your wrath we tremble.

  • Most suffering comes on man because man chooses sin rather than God and His ways.
  • Sin causes much suffering to ourselves, to those around us, and to mankind in general.
  • Genesis 3:19 In the sweat of your face will you eat bread, until you return to the ground; for out of it you were taken: for dust you are, and to dust you will return.

8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of Your presence. 9 For all our days are passed away in your wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told. 10 The days of our years are 70; and if by reason of strength they are 80, still their strength is labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

  • Lamentations 3:33 He does not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men.

11 Who knows the power of your anger? and your fury, according to the reverence that is due you? 12 So teach us to number our days, that we may cause our hearts to come to wisdom. 13 Return, O LORD, how long? And be sorry for your servants. 14 O satisfy us early with your love; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. 15 Make us glad according to the days in which you have afflicted us, and the years in which we have seen evil. 16 Let your work appear to your servants, and your glory to their children.

  • Psalm 74:12 God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

The LORD is beautiful

17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, the work of our hands, you establish it.

  • Psalm 45:2 You are more beautiful the children of men: grace is poured into your lips: therefore God has blessed you forever.

                                              Psalm 91

1 He that dwells in the secret place of the most High will abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him I will trust. 3 He will definitely deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will trust: his truth will be your shield and bulwark. 5 You will not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flies by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday. 7 A thousand will fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not come near you.

  • God alone possesses all the power in the universe. That is the meaning of His title, the Almighty.
  • He delivers from the traps and confusions of evil.

  • 'The terror by night’ means that God protects from rapists and serial killers.
  • He makes us invincible.
  • “The arrow that flies by day’ means that God will keep us safe from snipers, drive by shootings, car bombs etc.
  • If we dwell in the secret place of the most High, He will even protect us in the midst of mass plagues and war zones.

8 Only with your eyes will you behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the most High, your dwelling;

  • Psalm 90:1LORD, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. :2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

The Almighty gives His angels charge over us, to guard us in all our ways

10 There will no evil befall you, neither will any plague come near your dwelling. 11 For he will give his angels charge over you, to guard you in all your ways. 12 They will bear you up in their hands, so that you do not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and asp/cobra: the young lion and the dragon you will trample under feet. 14 Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him: I will set him on high, because he has known my name. 15 He will call on me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

  • God promises to set on high those who get to know Him. He promises to answer when we call, to be with us in trouble, to honor us, and satisfy with long life.
  • Revelation 3:21 To him that overcomes I will grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and have set down with my Father in his throne.
  • Revelation. 21:7 He that overcomes will inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he will be my son.

                                            Psalm 92

The Most High makes us glad through His work

0 A Psalm or Song for the sabbath day. 1 It is a good thing to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to your name, O most High: 2 To show forth your love in the morning, and your faithfulness every night, 3 On a ten stringed lute, and on the harp; with resounding music on the lyre. 4 For You, LORD, have made me glad through your work: I will triumph in the works of your hands.

  • There exists no being anywhere greater than God.
  • He is biggest (infinite), smartest (knows everything), most enduring (always has been and always will be (eternal), most loving (sent His son to die for our sins so that we might live forever in a state of infinite happiness). That is part of the meaning of His title Most High.
  • Psalm 96:5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.
  • Psalm 63:3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will praise you.
  • Psalm 36:5 Your love, O LORD, is in the heavens; and your faithfulness reaches unto the clouds.

His thoughts are very deep

5 O LORD, how great are Your works! And Your thoughts are very deep. 6 A brutish man does not know; neither does a fool understand this. 7 When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity flourish; it is that they will be destroyed forever: 8 But You, LORD, are most high for evermore. 9 For, behold, your enemies, O LORD, for, behold, your enemies will perish; all the workers of iniquity will be scattered.

He exalts His own

10 But you will exalt my horn like the horn of a unicorn: I will be anointed with fresh oil. 11 My eye also will see my desire on my enemies, and my ears will hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me. 12 The righteous will flourish like the palm tree: he will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Those that are planted in the house of the LORD will flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They will still bring forth fruit in old age; they will be fat and flourishing; 15 To show that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

  • The blessings of following God are many and marvelous and enduring.
  • God took Joseph out of the dungeon to make him prime minister of Egypt.
  • He took David from following sheep to lead His people, to be king.
  • God never does anything that is wrong.
  • Everything He does is perfectly and eternally and infinitely right.
  • He is our unshakable stability.
  • Revelation 3:21 To him that overcomes I will grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and have set down with my Father in his throne.

                                          Psalm 93

The LORD rules over all; He is clothed with majesty and strength

1 The LORD reigns, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, with it he has wrapped himself: the world also is established, that it cannot be moved. 2 Your throne is established from then: You are from everlasting.

  • God is all-powerful. There is nothing He cannot do.
  • A tiny display of His power is that He holds together the universe.
  • God alone had no beginning. He always was. He always will be.
  • He has given eternal life to those who believe in His Son His.
  • We have a beginning but no end if we believe.
  • John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him not perish, but have everlasting life.

3 The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.

  • Floods represent the people of the world.
  • Just like the waves of the ocean, the people lift themselves up against God, their Maker.
  • 2Samuel 22:5 When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;

4 The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yes, than the mighty waves of the sea. 5 Your testimonies are very sure: holiness becomes your house, O LORD, forever.

  • What He says, is what is.
  • Holiness makes His house beautiful.
  • Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
  • Psalm 23:6 Definitely goodness and mercy/love will follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

                                          Psalm 94

Vengeance belongs to God, the judge of the earth

1 O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongs; O God, to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth. 2 Lift up yourself, you judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud. 3 LORD, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph? 4 How long will they utter and speak hard things? And all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? 5 They break your people in pieces, O LORD, and afflict your heritage. 6 They kill the widow and the foreigner, and murder the fatherless. 7 Yet they say, The LORD will not see, neither will the God of Jacob regard it.

  • God knows all the facts, feels all our pain (Isaiah 63:9).
  • He is infinitely fair and uses bad things for good purposes.
  • If we stay out of His way He will make it right for us and use it for eternal good to us and to the one who has injured us.
  • That is something we can’t do. God’s people are His heritage.
  • When He chose what inheritance He wanted He chose you.
  • Deuteronomy 32:9 For the LORD’s portion is his people…
  • Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.

8 Pay attention, you senseless among the people: and you fools, when will you be wise? 9 He that planted the ear, does he not hear? He that formed the eye, does he not see? 10 He that disciplines the nations, does not he correct? He that teaches man knowledge, does he not know? 11 The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

God’s discipline brings blessing

12 Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O LORD, and teach him out of your law. 13 That you may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked.

  • The wicked dig their own pit by their choices.
  • Hebrews 12:6 whom the Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives. 7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father does not discipline? 8 But if are be without correction, of which all are partakers, then you are bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh that corrected us, and we gave them reverence: should we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?

14 For the LORD will not cast off his people, he will not forsake his inheritance. 15 But judgment will return to righteousness: and all of the upright in heart will follow it. 16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity? 17 Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul quickly dwelt in silence.

  • Hebrews  13:5 Let your life be without covetousness; and be content with what things you have: for he has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what can man do to me.

His mercy holds us up; His comforts delight our soul

18 When I said, My foot slipped; your love, O LORD, held me up. 19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me your comforts delight my soul. 20 Shall the throne of iniquity, that frames mischief by a law, have fellowship with you?

  • Man only needs the laws that God has written. Imagine laws that make God’s word and prayer illegal in schools!

21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood. 22 But the LORD is my defense; and my God is the rock of my refuge. 23 And he will bring on them their own iniquity, and will cut them off in their own wickedness; yes, the LORD our God will cut them off.

  • They do it to themselves by choosing evil.
  • God placed the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the center of Eden for a reason.
  • All life is about choice. Man can choose life or death.
  • Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live:

                                           Psalm 95

The LORD is a great God and a great King above all gods

1 Come, let us sing to the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise to him with psalms. 3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

  • Our salvation is sure because God did it.
  • od made all the other beings. He made all things.
  • He is infinite and eternal knowledge, power, righteousness, and love.
  • The other gods are powers that He created that need to kneel to their Maker.
  • Psalm 96:5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.
  • Deuteronomy 32:17 They sacrificed to devils, not to God.
  • Isaiah 51:6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look on the earth beneath: for the heavens will vanish away like smoke, and the earth will grow old like a garment, and they that dwell in it will die the same way: but my salvation will be forever, and my righteousness will not be abolished.

4 In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. 5 The sea is his; he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. 6 Come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. 7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today if you will hear his voice, 8 Do not harden your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. 10 Forty long years I was grieved with that generation and said, It is a people that err in their heart; they have not known my ways: 11 To whom I swore in my wrath that they would not enter into my rest.

  • God was grieved with His people the 40 years they wandered in the wilderness in unbelief.
  • God’s ways are fully revealed to us in His Word, the Bible.

  • f we don’t know His ways its because we don’t want to.
  • In His wrath He swore that unbelievers would not enter into His rest.
  • If we learn and believe what God has said to us then we will enter into His rest, for eternal forgiveness as well as for every promise to us in His word.
  • Hebrews 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should come short of it. 2 For the gospel was preached to us as well as to them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3 For we who have believed enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, they will not enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

                                           Psalm 96

The LORD is great beyond our comprehension

1 O sing to the LORD a new song: sing to the LORD, all the earth. 2 Sing to the LORD, bless his name; show forth his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.

  • The word ‘name’ most often means person, not just the name that a person is called.
  • The Person of God is infinite and eternal knowledge, power, righteousness, and love.
  • He created all things and then created man in His own image.
  • When man fell by disobedience to God, God immediately promised a solution (Genesis 3:15).
  • The visible glory of God is described in Ezekiel 1:26-28, Revelation 1, and 4.
  • John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.
  • Job 5:9 Who does great things and unsearchable; marvelous things without number:

4 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. 6 Honor and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 7 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the people, give to the LORD glory and strength. 8 Give to the LORD the glory due his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts. 9 Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

  • There is no beauty on earth like our Lord's beauty.
  • Psalm 45:2 You are fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into your lips: therefore God has blessed you forever.

He rules over all; He judges rightly

10 Say among the heathen that the LORD reigns: the world also will be established that it not be moved: he will judge the people righteously. 11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fullness of it. 12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it: then all the trees of the wood will rejoice 13 Before the LORD: for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth: he will judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.

  • Our President rules over just one of 297 countries on one planet in a universe of countless planets.
  • The LORD rules over all the universe, all that exists anywhere.
  • Verse 13 tells us the Lords standard of judgment—His word, His truth (John 17:17).
  • He is coming to judge all and set things right.
  • Then all creation will rejoice—the heavens, the earth, the seas, the field, and the woods.
  • Psalm 93:1 The LORD reigns, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, with which he has wrapped himself: the world also is established, that it cannot be moved.

                                           Psalm 97

1 The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of its islands be glad. 2 Clouds and darkness are around him: righteousness and judgment are the basis of his throne. 3 A fire goes before him, and burns up his enemies round about. 4 His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled. 5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

  • The LORD rules rightly and justly.
  • Remember in Job 1 and 2 even Satan had to ask God for permission to test Job.
  • Psalm 62:12 To you, O Lord, belongs love: for you render to every man according to his work.

The heavens declare His righteousness

6 The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory. 7 All are ashamed that serve carved images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all you gods.

  • The false gods are the fallen angels that followed Satan.
  • Here they are admonished to worship the LORD, their Maker.
  • Ezekiel 1 describes the glory of God.
  • 1Corinthians 10:20 But I say, that the things that the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God.
  • Ezekiel 1:26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and on the throne was the appearance of a man above upon it. 27 And I saw as the color of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins upward, and from the appearance of his loins downward, I saw the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about. 28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, was the brightness around it. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.

8 Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of your judgments, O LORD. 9 For You, LORD, are high above all the earth: You are exalted far above all gods. 10 You that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserves the souls of his saints; he delivers them out of the hand of the wicked. 11 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. 12 Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

  • God’s holiness is His infinite and eternal knowledge, power, righteousness, and love.
  • His judgments bring rejoicing.
  • He preserves the soul of His saints and delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.
  • God planted a garden in Eden and His word is the light that He sows like seeds into our hearts (Psalm 119:130).

  • Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

                                          Psalm 98

1 A Psalm, O sing to the LORD a new song; for he has done marvelous things: his right hand, and his holy arm have gotten him the victory.

  • 1John 3:8b For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

2 The LORD has made known his salvation: his righteousness has he openly shown in the sight of the nations. 3 He has remembered his love and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. 4 Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth: break out and rejoice, sing praise. 5 Sing to the LORD with the lyre; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm. 6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.

  • The Lord has shown the nations His righteousness.
  • The words in scripture for Lord mean 1) intense, eternal self-existence. God does not need any kind of sustenance. 2) controller— He controls everything in existence while allowing freewill.
  • Jeremiah 10:10 But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth will tremble, and the nations will not be able to abide his indignation.

7 Let the sea roar, and the fullness of it, the world, and those that dwell in it. 8 Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together before the LORD; 9 For he comes to judge the earth: he will judge the world with righteousness and the people with equity.

  • Jesus came the first time to save from sin whoever will believe.
  • The second time He comes it is to judge the world.
  • True fairness will finally reign on earth always and forever.
  • No more sneaks, liars, manipulators, murderers, rapists, child molesters, or kidnappers. No more fraud, scams, unfair prices, or high taxes.
  • Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
